The new statutory framework in Germany for combined heat and power generation
Hamburg, Germany (in German)
In its new climate protection package, the German coalition government has drawn up a programme to double the share of CHP plants in electricity production by 2020. For this purpose, the CHP law (KWKG) has been revised, incentives for the efficient use of biomass CHP installations have been improved in amendments to the Renewable Energies Act (EEG), a special funding programme for small CHP plants has been launched, other measures in support of CHP have been introduced in the Renewable Energies Heat Act (EEWG) and new regulations on feeding biogas into the natural gas grid have been adopted.
In order to inform national and European CHP stakeholders of the new legislative developments in Germany, B.KWK (the German CHP Association) organises a one-day workshop “The new statutory framework in Germany for combined heat and power generation”. At the workshop, offered at four different locations throughout Germany, well-know legal authorities on energy issues and experts from science and industry explain in depth what this means for investors and operators.
The one-day workshops take place as follows:
- 14 August 2008 in Essen
- 28 August in Berlin – with English interpretation
- 4 September 2008 in Hamburg

Energy Education, the challenge of e-learning in schools
Ateliers des Tanneurs, Brussels, Belgium
The importance of environmental education and in particular of energy education in schools increased by the growing challenges of climate change, but also by the fact that energy consumption of schools have developed in problematic proportions.
The use of ICT in education spread itself rapidly because of it's social relevance and new educational possibilities which they offer. E-learning in the daily practice of education still stands in its child hood but develops strongly. The learning activities by which are used computers interactively and are linked by a network brings new possibilities to schools, but brought also new problems.
During this conference,
energy education, the challenge of e-learning in schools, the main question is how e-learning can contribute to environmental and energy education in order to reach a large number of schools and students. It brings in ew questions such as:
- how to incorporate energy education and the use of e-learning in the curriculum of schools;
- how motivate the students systematically to use these electronic resources
- how to stimulates the cooperation between the students and several schools by means of the Internet.
The conference focusses on how current e-learning platforms can satisfy first needs, but also stress the importance of the challenge on how e-learning has to develop and makes energy and environmental education accesable, easy to use, interactively and low cost. A focus is put on how in practice to use the Internet in a teaching situation. During the conference we will refer both to the general framework of the use of e-learning in schools and to some relevant best practice in energy education and e-learning in schools.
The conference will take place in Brussels on Tuesday 7 October 2008. The participants and participants will come beside Belgium (Brussels, Walloon and Flanders) from several European countries. The organisers expect about 120 participants in the beautiful historic environnement of «les Ateliers des Tanneurs» (
www.ateliersdestanneurs.be) in 1000 Brussels - Belgium. There will be simultaneous translation in English, French and Dutch.

Walk 21:
The 9th International Conference on Walking
Barcelona, Spain
Walking is the first thing an infant wants to do and the last thing an old person wants to give up. Walking is the exercise that does not need a gym. It is the prescription without medicine, the weight control without diet, and the cosmetic that can't be found in a chemist. It is the tranquilliser without a pill, the therapy without a psychoanalyst, and the holiday that does not cost a penny. What's more, it does not pollute, consumes few natural resources and is highly efficient. Walking is convenient, it needs no special equipment, is self-regulating and inherently safe. Walking is as natural as breathing.
